Siemens: Acquisition of Edge Technology planned

Siemens plans to acquire Edge Technology from the American company Pixeom. With Siemens Industrial Edge, an ecosystem is created in which data is analyzed locally on the machine using suitable apps, while relevant data is sent to the Industrial Edge Management System for global analysis.

Siemens is relying on the standard container technology "Docker" for this purpose. This should make it just as easy to provide apps in the management system as it is to download functionalities and updates of the Edge devices in the factory from a central location.

Siemens intends to acquire Pixeom's technology and use it in the Factory Automation business unit, which is part of Siemens Digital Industries. Pixeom, with offices in San José, California and Udaipur, India, employs 81 people worldwide. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2019. Financial details of the transaction are not disclosed.
