Product Life live (PLL) event ends

The sixth Product Life live (PLL) was held at the end of September in Stuttgart. As now announced by the event organizer Mesago Messe Frankfurt on its own homepage, this will be the last time: “Given the considerably changed market situation, we have decided to no longer organize the “Product Life live” event and to remove it from our program.”  It could, however, continue without Mesago.

The acquisition of Vistagy by Siemens was officially completed on December 6, 2011. In two respects this move gives Siemens PLM Software a strategic extension to its portfolio.

Autodesk 360 for PLM

On November 29, 2011, Autodesk announced a new PLM solution at the Autodesk University in Las Vegas. Under the name 'Autodesk 360 for PLM' this offering relies on cloud technology and, according to the company, is aimed at “both small companies wanting to introduce PLM for the first time and large ones who have become jaded by the complexity and high costs of traditional PLM solutions”. Codex of PLM Openness

With the Codex of PLM Openness (CPO for short), it is intended that a ProSTEP iViP Association project group will develop a fundamental understanding concerning the openness of PLM software that will permit participating companies to position themselves with regard to this question. The main elements of CPO are voluntary commitments by the participating companies and the definition of objective mandatory, targeted and discretionary criteria. A similar initiative is being undertaken from the informatics side with regard to application lifecycle management (ALM) – Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC).
